Happy Monday all! I recently did a Facebook Live Makeup Tutorial on a smokey-eyed look, and had some questions about product listing, and such, so of course I thought I’d share! Now usually a darker lid, smokey-eye is not my go-to, but this day I was going to do some makeup for a fellow stylist friend, and wanted to look professional, and wear my makeup a little heavier than usual. I love the sultry look that resulted!
Now I almost never go with black eye shadow because I feel like it tends to lean a little less towards sexy, and a little more towards gothic (even though there’s definitely a time and place for black)…that being said, dark cool browns are usually my best friends when I want to darken anything up!
So for my eyeshadow I of course used some of my favorite Colourpop pressed eyeshadows, starting with Let Me Explain, a nice light champagne, as a base just to brighten my lid, and give a better canvas for my darker shadows to really pop. I also place this in my inner corner, and on my brow bone just under my brow for a highlight. I then followed with Sea Stars, a warm light-medium brown, in my crease and blending up onto my brow bone, but not touching my brow, Lil’ Boat, a warm medium brown, blended into my crease, as well as under my bottom lash line, and lastly Cloud Nine, a cool dark brown, on my lid, blended just slightly into my crease, and the outer corner of my bottom lash line.
Then I went in to do my eyeliner using my NYX Epic Ink Liner in Black, a bit thicker than usual, and adding a wing. For my lashes I used Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara in Blackest Black (top and bottom lashes), and then added my Magnetic False Lashes from the Urban Lash (which I am absolutely loving by the way) from the middle to the outer edge of my top lashes (they only cover half of your lash line). I love the extra drama and again sultry look that these dark colors, and magnetic lashes give! It’s perfect for date night, night out with the girls, or just a more “dressed up” professional day look for work.
For my base, I started out with a clean canvas of course, and then used some of my Smashbox Photo Finish Radiance Primer, under my foundation and concealer. The foundation I used for this look has quickly become one of my all-time favorite foundations EVER…and that is my Tarte Amazonian Clay Airbrush Foundation in Fair-Light Neutral! It is quite simply….AMAZING! But Seriously you guys, you HAVE to try this foundation, it is lightweight, breathable, matte coverage, that actually covers redness, veins, and other discolorations without setting in fine lines and wrinkles!!! I could go on and on about this foundation, but for now just know that its wonderful. The concealer I used is my Colourpop No Filter Concealer in Light Neutral 15, and I am absolutely loving it so far! It definitely lasts all throughout the day like I need it to, and has a matte finish that I love as well.
CONTOUR/BLUSH/HIGHLIGHT (NEAPOLITAN ICE CREAM)
I like to remind people of Neapolitan ice cream when teaching them to apply their bronzer, blush, and highlight because as it sits on your cheekbones, it should blend together from chocolaty tones, up to pinky-peachy tones, and lastly to a beautiful vanilla highlight on top. For my cheeks I used my Tarte tarteist PRO GLOW TO GO palette bronzer in chisel, and highlight in burst. My lovely strawberry ice cream was created by tarte as well, and it is the Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush, and my shade is feisty, but they unfortunately do not sell this shade any longer (that I can find), but have lots of other beautiful, long-lasting shades to choose from.
My beautiful berry lip color was achieved by mixing two of my favorite Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink lip colors, Voyager, and Seductress which you can find at Ulta, but can also get from Walmart, Walgreens, and most likely Target, and CVS. I made sure to prep my lips with my Burt’s Bees Flavor Crystals Lip Balm, as well as my Rodan+ Fields chapstick, which can be purchased from a R+F distributor.
Lastly, ladies, I used a waterproof brow builder on my brows that I bought from Sephora, and I’m loving it for long-lasting brows! It’s the Sephora waterproof Gel Sourcils Brow Builder in Midnight Brown. It’s great for adding color, as well as natural-looking thickness.
So, there it is! Exactly what I used to achieve my smokey eye, as well as the rest of my makeup, and where you can find each of the products used! I’ll also add that I love how the colors and products I used look great on lots of skin tones, and eye colors (I know this because I have used them on clients)! Natural, yet sultry and just a little more glam than the usual! If you guys want to check out the live tutorial on this look, check it out Right Here!! I hope you all have a FANTASTIC rest of the week& don’t forget to look on the beautiful bright side! God Bless! -HB
